Original Russian chair

Three reproductions in progress

The items featured in the portfolio section are not meant to represent a complete catalog or line of work, but rather to illustrate John's wide range of capabilities.

The contemporary pieces are of his own design, while the traditional pieces are either direct copies of antiques or adaptations to fit a particular size or space. John is capable of woodwork in any style or design.

The chairs featured on the left show the type of woodworking challenge John enjoys most. He was presented with the top photograph from a book of treasures from the Hermitage in Russia. With nothing to go by but the photo in the book, John was able to reproduce the three beautiful hand carved chairs in progress you see in the photo on the lower left.

John uses only traditional construction methods such as mortise and tenon joints, and hand cut dovetails. He is particularly skilled at detailed hand carving and intricate turning. John works in conjunction with other top quality craftsmen who are able to compliment his work with top quality guilding, painting and polishing.
